January 26-30

Our latest science experiment.  We talked about what "fresh" means and noted the differences in the two potatoes.  One was not as fresh as the other. Students were very interested in how the potato seemed to grow instantly when we put it in the water.  We discussed that it had not really gotten bigger but was the water playing tricks on our eyes.   We also discussed how it is OK to fail at experiments.  SK friends remembered that we did this last year and it did not grow - just got moldy.  I did some more research and think we might have success this time.  Judging by the survey book below, many also think we will succeed this time.

Ever so popular big block centre!

Drawing pictures for his report card with a little help from a furry friend!

Help from her furry friend too!

The friends met . . . Can a pelican and alligator be friends?

Creating pretty plates with pasta!

Checking out our science experiment.

We did more exploring with magnets.
We put water in one of the jars and noted that the magnet on the outside
works through the water and can move the magnet inside.
Then we put sand in one of the jars and noted that the outside magnet cannot work
through the sand and try as we might, we could not budge the magnet inside.

Surveying friends to see what their favourite colour is.

Beautiful art!

These two friends made patterns with the pasta!

Using directions in a book to create a very detailed Lego mobile!

A new configuration meant a new way to build an enclosed structure.
It took a lot of cooperation and communication but this class is great in that department!

Making a plan!

Great window!

Our reading centre before we got our new couch.

More surveying.

The finished product!

Tim Hortons!  This was the last week for this VERY popular centre.
We are brainstorming what to turn it into next.

More awesome art!

 One last sip and bite!

We wrote a thank you note to the Tim Hortons on Malden to thank
them for the donation of cups and other materials for our centre.

Our new couch in the reading centre fits three!

Leis can have many uses - even a beard!

Enjoying the toob-a-loo "phones" at the reading cente.  These help
students hear themselves when they read.

Building with dominoes.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and stay safe if you have to go out in the snow.  Don't forget to listen to 800 CKLW for bus information in the event of a large snowfall!
