Week of September 29-October 4

Crazy Hair Day Fun!

Sorting by colour but choosing to use different coloured bowls - tricky!!
Ms. Romero read this cute story.
Mrs. McTats collected cats.  She had twenty six - one for every letter in the alphabet, named with the letters A-Z.  In this story, students were exposed to lots of math and language.  Lukas quickly recognized that Mrs. McTats was naming them in alphabetical order.  Students were also invited to use the abacus to keep track of how many cats Mrs. McTats had.
Ms. Romero brought in some additions to our dress up centre.  It was a huge hit!

King Triton just like his brother!

He discovered three ways to make three different sounds with the same basket.
Brothers making some great music together!
Letters were hidden beneath packing peanuts and students were challenged to find them all and put them back into their spots on a puzzle board.  They quickly worked together and got the job done.  To make it more tricky, I added numbers mixed in with the letters.  It only slowed them down a bit!

Shiny happy faces make our classroom a shiny happy place!
Artful creations!

Captain America was very popular in our room this week.

We played a matching game, matching the domino card to the numeral/word card.

More fun . . .
Using sand to write our names.
A great idea is the inspiration for others.
We used stickers and ten frames to create number displays.
Experimenting with objects both opaque and translucent at the light table.
Students helped cut the laminating film and discovered it cut much differently than paper.
Painting using fall colours.
Multi-tasking because there was so much to do!  He is wearing a dress-up vest, carrying a guitar and gathering materials for a Captain America shield.
Students have been unscrambling letters to the word of the day.  First they use the picture clue to figure out which word it is, then they listen for the beginning and ending sound and put those letters into place.  Finally, we fill in the middle sounds.  Many students decided they wanted to try and draw the picture and write the word, "pumpkin" in this picture.
