Ms. Romero read this book, Chu's First Day of School and talked with the children how Chu was feeling on his first day and then asked for them to talk about how they were feeling as well. Chu has become a valued member of our classroom these past two weeks. Students have built him multiple homes, made him an official name card, created a hat for him, and included him in much of their play. Here are some examples :
Students Enjoying Centres!
We used acorns, leaves, shapes, and glass beads the past two weeks at the light table. The frames were left in case students wanted to frame their creations but they were free to explore without them as well.
During week one, the water table was filled with water and bubbles. For week two, we filled it with water and rocks. Students were invited to "paint" the rocks with water. We quickly observed that the water wore away the rocks and we were left with sediment on the bottom of the water table.
Students traced wooden letters at the writing centre.
Our big block centre is always busy. During the past two weeks, they have been used to create many homes, towers (some taller than Ms. Romero!), hiding places and much more!
Our carpet is also busy with our "carpet toys". This is where students are invited to play with Lego, Mobilo (seen above), small blocks, large foam shapes, Straws and Connectors, and more.
