Even More from October 20-24!

Picture Day!

Great minds dress alike!
All dressed up and ready for his class picture!

A Trip to the Zoo!

One of our friends decided he would take Ms. Romero and some friends on a trip to the zoo.  He made tickets, boarded his guests on a bus and took them to the zoo.  Friends made a picnic lunch and enjoyed their tour of many animals and sights!

Creating a number line using acorns, noting that the further we move to the right, the numbers get bigger and to the left, the numbers get smaller.  Ms. Romero also made a number line and stepped on numbers.  Students had to use the numbers to the left and right to figure out which number she was covering with her feet.

More from October 20-24

Please pardon the multiple posts.  I am accessing internet from a source that deleted my initial, very long post.  So, in order to not lose the entire thing, I am breaking them up.   So . . . on to activities for the week!

Exploring the the similarities and differences of the insides of  pumpkins, squash, and gourds.

Writing and illustrating Halloween words.
Using paper towel tubes as drumsticks then comparing the sound to traditional drumsticks.

Week of October 20-24

We started the week noticing the difference in the jack-o-lantern that Kelly and her mother carved.  It had grown fuzz over the weekend.  We quickly found our friend a new home at the base of the path into the forest.  We are sure the forest critters are enjoying their new Halloween decoration!
Working on our Work Window.  Each child draws a new picture every month that gets posted on their own special spot on the bulletin board.  At the end of the year we will have a booklet of ten pictures that will help us note the progress from September to June.

A huge thank you to Mrs. O'Neill and Mrs. Tonkin!

Thank you Mrs. O'Neill for providing the idea, materials, and time to help us tie and dye the shirts.  Thank you Mrs. Tonkin for your amazing artistic abilities and time in creating the pumpkin faces.  We LOVE our shirts, and so does the office staff, and Ms. Romero's friends (she was drawing on pumpkin faces at one of Ruby's practices), and anyone else who popped in while we were making them!

A visit from Jane and Michael Banks!

On Friday, October 17, we were treated to a visit from the Jane and Michael Banks characters from Mary Poppins.  Ms. Romero's daughter, Ruby, and her friend, Spencer will be performing in the play this November and took time out of their school day to sing three songs from the play and answer questions from our class.  We admired their beautiful voices and costumes.  What a treat!!!!

More from the week of October 14-17

We added pumpkin seeds to the play dough, creating jack-o-lanterns and different textures.

After investigating the outside of our pumpkin, we cut it open and investigated the inside.

We smelled and felt the insides of a raw pumpkin, then baked it and noted the differences.

We crushed leaves and added glitter.
We used the "leaf glitter" and brown tinted glue to create pictures.

We put pictures of the pumpkin life cycle in chronological order.

Comparing gourds

Painting pumpkins

Lego fun!

Making paper airplanes and testing them out

Dramatic play!

Creating pictures and stories to go along with them.  This one was about a police car.
We explored colour mixing using coloured cups at the light table.

We made jack-o-lanterns with plates!

We made pumpkins out of play dough and put them on a gate!
We counted pumpkin seeds and matched the numeral to the quantity.

Pumpkin Patch Fun!

On October 14, we took a bus to Pepe's Pumpkin Patch to learn about pumpkins and how they grow.  We also learned a lot more!  For example we learned what scarecrows do and what happens to corn when it stays on its stalk.  A special thank you to Mrs. Orlando, Mrs. McLean, Mr. St. Amour, and a very special Nonno for helping us stay safe and happy!

We went for a walk in the corn maze!

We went on a hayride!

Face Painting!

We sang songs and played pass the pumpkin!
